Here are some pictures from today's fishing!!  We were out 10 miles SW of Caxambus Pass, using cut bait and working on a drift.  We had 3 keeper Groupers & a nice 38" King Mackerel as well as a dozen and a half nice size lane snappers (average 12 to 13").

Bryan & I were out today with the MSC group.  We caught most of the trout, Spanish Mackerel & my pompano plus a ton of huge ladyfish, etc. a few miles south east of Coon Key Light.  Bryan caught & released a 16" trout (caught with jig).  I caught my 15" Mackerel & 18 ½ inch pompano on a piece of shrimp.

This Sturgeon was caught on the Black River at South Haven, Michigan last week. It weighed out at over 1,000 lbs. and measured out at 11'1''.  It was 56" around the girth and took over six and a half hours for the four guys taking turns reeling it in.

                                 Hunt for Red October

MSC’s first Hunt for Red October on October 18 was an unqualified success. Four boats with 13 anglers participated in the off-shore event focusing on Red Grouper.

Under sunny skies and calm seas, everyone caught fish, lots of fish. Three of the boats caught their limit of Red Grouper. Mike Sadjak ( son of member Joe ) won the prize for the largest Red at 29 inches. There was close competition for the honor with runner ups at 28, 27 and 26 ½ inches. The team of Andy Battaglia and Brian Mordecai outperformed the field by a large margin taking the honors for most cumulative linear inches of grouper with over 500 inches per angler. Andy and Brian also bagged 15 snapper to round things out a bit. Capt. Bert Hoell’s boat had the best combination of quality ( narrowly edged out in bigest fish ) and quantity.

At the end of the day, the event was properly celebrated at Porky’s. Special thanks to organizers Al Musico and Fred Kouhi. The event was a keeper.
